Fresh Food for Families Coping with Sickness
Ezrat Achim provides cooked meals for families with a parent or child who is hospitalized or undergoing treatment, as well as the elderly or disabled who are unable to cook for themselves. We currently have requests from hundreds of local families who need meals. Please help sponsor a family so that we won’t have to turn anyone away!
As you sit with your loved ones at your shabbos table, you will experience the truest form of Oneg Shabbos- knowing that your donation has provided meals for an entire family!
At Ezrat Achim we know that fresh and nutritious food is a necessity for individuals and families coping with illness. Eating proper meals is what gives them the energy and physical stamina to continue caring for themselves and their loved ones. There are also many elderly residents who can’t prepare cooked food on their own. Our Meal Distribution System relies upon local volunteers, who cook fresh food daily for the benefit of families who are dealing with a medical emergency, serious illness or hospitalization of a family member. Meals are also sent for Shabbat and Chag and those meals include fish, soup, chicken/meat and side dishes. A group of dedicated, volunteer drivers distribute the meals to the families’ homes.
We do not have a proper, dedicated kitchen to use at this time, so we rely on our network of home cooks and also rent space in a local commercial kitchen to prepare meals so that we don’t have to turn anyone away. We have received a piece of land from the Bet Shemesh municipality and are seeking sponsors who can help cover the costs of the kitchen, so that we can provide meals for all those who need them.
Starting in March 2020, Ezrat Achim began sending meals to families of Covid-19 patients. In some families as many as six family members are suffering from the effects of the virus simultaneously! Ezrat Achim has “stepped up to the plate” and sends daily cooked meals to these families during the acute phase of their illness.
